语境理论在英语教学中的运用

Abstract: The Context theory has been the focus of research in linguistic field in recent years, which improves the teaching and learning of English. This paper focuses on the theory of context. The author finds in this research that the solutions to the major problems with vocabulary learning are to change the old ideas of English vocabulary teaching and learning, use the context theory in English teaching.

The theoretical basis of the application of context theory in English Vocabulary Teaching

(a) definition of language

Language is an important communication tool; the language of Chomsky psychological theory that language is a kind of ability, is a unique mechanism in the brain; language structure of Saussure's theory that language is a symbol system, an expression of thoughts so that vocabulary is the foundation of language, must be through the use of master.

(two) on the basis of Communicative Approach

The communicative approach is put forward from the meaning of language and language features, combined with the specific language environment for learners training of listening, speaking, reading and writing ability, so that learners can not only increase their knowledge, but also learn to use the knowledge effectively and appropriately to different objects in different occasions. All of these require teachers to use the situation to create a good communication environment in vocabulary teaching, and help students to use vocabulary correctly and reasonably.

(three) based on Krashen's theory of second language acquisition

According to Krashen's theory of second language acquisition, comprehensible input is the key to language acquisition, can not provide learners with natural opportunities teaching activities will make learners lose the main source of exposure to the language material, thereby preventing the progress of acquisition. Therefore, the ideal vocabulary teaching should create more opportunities to use the language directly, so that students can immerse themselves in the language environment for meaningful communication.

Two, the role of context in vocabulary teaching

(a) context helps to determine the meaning of a word

Lexical meaning is determined by context and context. The meaning of a word can be understood only when it appears in the same language as another word. Polysemy is a prominent feature of english. The vocabulary of the current teaching materials usually lists the multiple parts of speech, a number of Chinese meaning for the students to remember, so that the students of the word multi word, the use of multi word sense of touch, learning burden. Therefore, in vocabulary teaching, we should present the context to the students so that the students can understand the usage of the words. Three, the application of context theory in English Vocabulary Teaching

The application of context theory in vocabulary presentation

Presentation is one of the steps or stages in language teaching. It refers to the introduction of a new language project, which includes the meaning of the language project, examples, and other essential elements.

(1) use the classroom reality scene to present vocabulary

English Teaching in school is a natural and authentic communicative situation. From the teacher into the classroom until the end of classroom teaching, leaving the classroom, is a realistic, vivid, rich and colorful language teaching scene. Therefore, teachers should try to take advantage of this situation, try to organize the classroom teaching in English, and turn the English classroom teaching into a lively English communicative environment.

Therefore, the use of them to present vocabulary can make students aware of the inner beauty and external beauty of English language, and the students also know the meaning and usage of some words while reading and reciting them.

(two) the application of context theory in consolidating vocabulary

In order to consolidate the vocabulary, we must use a variety of means to carry out a large number of language drills and practice.

(1) creating situations to consolidate vocabulary in oral activities

Teachers should create a rich language environment, to provide students with appropriate, authentic language input, in order to facilitate the use of the students to learn vocabulary knowledge.

(2) verbal rehearsal

Oral retelling is a kind of oral expression activity, which is used to summarize the main idea of the text after the students understand the text or dialogue, and know the key words and new words. This activity is a creative representation of the material content of a known language, rather than a simple repetition of the known material.
